We handle the personal information we collect in accordance with the standards of the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act), which outlines how personal information must be collected, used, disclosed, stored and destroyed, and how an individual can access and correct or make complaints about the personal information held about them.

Acceptance of this privacy policy

By providing your personal information to Selectronic through our website, our application on your device, installed equipment or any other means, you indicate your acceptance of the application of this privacy policy to your information. If you do not agree to Selectronic handling your personal information in the way described in this privacy policy, please do not use this website, Selectronic’s application on your device or installed equipment.

What personal information we collect and hold

The personal information we collect from you or about you will depend on how you deal with us and the transaction you have entered into with us, the goods and services you or your organisation have contracted us to provide, or the goods and services you or your organisation are interested in.

We collect personal information from our customers (such as end users, installers and retailers), supplier contacts and potential candidates for employment.  The usual kinds of personal information that we collect includes: your full name, address, phone number, email address, payment information (such as your credit card or bank account details), your login credentials when you create an account with us, product warranty information, data gathered from a Selectronic Certified solar inverter, and energy data that may be collected through the use of our products and services.

We do not usually collect sensitive information (such as personal information about your health, your race or ethnicity or professional memberships). However, we may collect your sensitive information if there is a legal requirement to do so, or we are otherwise permitted by law, and it is relevant to our business functions or activities. We will usually seek your consent to collect it.

How we collect personal information

We generally collect personal information directly from you unless it is unreasonable or impracticable for us to do so.  We may receive personal information about you from third parties, including our business affiliates, partners, including during collaborative projects or events, recruitment agencies, and credit checks we undertake where appropriate and agreed with other trade suppliers.

You can be anonymous or use a pseudonym when dealing with us, unless we need to identify you by law, or it is impracticable for us to deal with you on this basis.  For example, to provide you with services that require your personal details such as purchases or support. However, you do not need to identify yourself if you choose not to when receiving technical support via phone or email.  If you choose not to identify yourself, it might limit the services or assistance we can provide.

If we cannot collect all of the personal information we request, or if you do not provide your consent to collection of your information when sought, then we may not be able to answer your enquiry, complete the transaction you have entered into, or provide the good and services that you or your organisation have contracted us to provide.

Why we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information

We collect, hold, use and disclose personal information to operate our business and related functions and activities. This includes to provide our products and services to you, complete transactions, facilitate customer support and understand our customer needs and to comply with our legal obligations. We also collect personal information to undertake credit checks on trade suppliers, for warranty registrations, to lodge an entry on the Personal Property Securities Register (where applicable and required), conduct market research and customer feedback surveys, communicate promotions or offers based on your purchase history. Where required, we may collect your contact details, site specific information and site location for installed equipment, to permit reporting and e-waste management processes.

We may share personal information with our subsidiary companies in Australia, with our logistics partners, or third-party service providers that facilitate our business operations and facilitate a streamlined onboarding setup into the Selectronic ecosystem.

If you are a candidate for a role with us, we will usually collect your personal information to process your application and consider your potential employment with us during the recruitment process, which may include the following types of personal information: your name, address, phone number, email, prior working experience and other details you may provide in your resume.  Your information may also be handled by a third party recruitment agency during the recruitment process.

If we wish to use or disclose your personal information for other purposes, we will obtain your consent unless another lawful basis applies. 

Direct marketing

We engage in direct marketing through various communication channels including email and SMS. We will always seek your consent before initiating direct marketing.  Where we use your personal information for marketing and promotional communications, you can opt out at any time by contacting us using our details below or by following the unsubscribe link provided in the communication. Functional opt out procedures are also included in our marketing communications.

Use of Cookies

When you visit our website, we may also use 'cookies' or other similar tracking technologies including Google Analytics that help us track your website usage, pages viewed and remember your preferences. Cookies are small files that store information on your computer, mobile phone or other device. They enable the entity that put the cookie on your device to recognise you across different websites, services, devices and/or browsing sessions. You can disable cookies through your internet browser, but our website may not work as intended for you if you do so.

Whilst we do not use browsing information to identify you personally, we may record certain information about your use of our website, such as which pages you visit, the time and date of your visit, search engine referrals, the browser you are using, your top level name (such as .com, .org, .gov, etc.) and the internet protocol (IP) address assigned to your computer.

By using our website and mobile services and apps, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not transfer personal information to Google Analytics or other such third-party vendors.

How we hold and store personal information

We store personal information in both digital and hard copy formats. We have physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in place for personal information and take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information is protected from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.

These safeguards include secured office premises, restricted and role based access to data, protection of data through encryption and storage on secure servers some of which may be managed by third-party providers, regular security audits, and cybersecurity training for staff. We take our protection of your personal information seriously, and our security vulnerabilities are routinely assessed and tracked, and patches for the systems we use are regularly implemented.

Destruction and de-identification

We will retain your personal information whilst it is required for any of our business functions, to comply with our legal obligations and for any other lawful purpose. We use secure methods to destroy your personal information when it is no longer needed and periodically notify customers to update their accounts to ensure that the information we hold remains relevant and up to date.

Overseas disclosure

We may disclose your personal information overseas in limited circumstances as we use a third party provider located in the United States of America to manage the email in transit functionality of our mobile device app.  We will take reasonable steps to ensure that this overseas provider complies with the standards in the Australian Privacy Principles, through the use of a Data Processing Addendum to our Terms of Service.

We do not otherwise usually disclose personal information to individuals or entities based overseas.

How to access and correct your personal information

You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you subject to some exceptions. You may also ask us to correct the personal information we hold about you. To make an access or correction request please contact us using the contact details below.

We will consider your request and may need to confirm your identity and request for information to respond. In most cases, we expect that we will be able to comply with your request. However, if we need to refuse all or some, we will give you written reasons for our decision and explain how you can complain.

Complaints and concerns

If you have a query, concern or complaint about how we handle your personal information, please contact us using our details below and we will respond promptly. We may need to verify your identity and ask you some questions to help us respond or to take steps to resolve your complaint.
